The Downsides of a BestBath Shower (From the People Who Install Them)
We install BestBath shower systems, and we think they are the best one-day shower on the market. That doesn't make them right for every bathroom. Here is where they fall short, so you can decide before anyone comes to your house.
1. You can't keep part of your old shower
Our showers are complete systems: base and walls together. If you love your existing tile and only want a new pan, or just new surround walls, this isn't the product. We take the whole wet area out and put the whole system in.
2. It isn't fully custom
Our systems come in a wide range of sizes, thresholds and finishes, but they still have set shapes. If you want a one-of-a-kind shower, like an odd angle, a mosaic floor or stone you picked out yourself, you need custom tile work.
3. It covers the wet area, not the whole bathroom
We replace the tub or shower. If you also want a new vanity, flooring, toilet or lighting, that's a separate project. Full bathroom remodels are available on request, but a shower install alone won't change the rest of the room.
4. It costs more than a liner
A liner installed over your old tub is cheaper and faster, because nothing comes out. We do a full tear-out, which costs more. You also get to see behind the walls, which matters: we find water damage in about 1 in 4 older tub and shower tear-outs.
5. The manufacturer warranty doesn't transfer
BestBath's product warranty is not transferable. If you sell your house, the next owner doesn't get it. If you're planning to sell soon, factor that in.
6. "One day" isn't every day
Many installs are done in as little as one day. If we find damage behind the wall, or your layout needs plumbing moved, it can take two or three days. We tell you up front when we expect a longer job.
7. Most systems take a few weeks
Most systems are made to your measurements, so install is usually 2 to 3 weeks after you sign. If you need a shower sooner, Need It Now and Quick Ship barrier-free packages come in common sizes (54x30 up to 60x36) and ship within days. They cover fewer configurations, so ask us whether one fits your bathroom.
When we'll tell you to go another way
- You want to keep your tile and replace one piece.
- You want a fully custom tile shower.
- Your budget only fits a cosmetic fix and the walls behind are sound.
We would rather tell you that on the phone than sell you the wrong shower.
When our showers are the right call
- You are done scrubbing grout.
- You want a low step-in or zero-step entry, seating and grab bars that are anchored properly.
- You want someone to open the walls and fix what's behind them.
- You want it done in about a day, with a warranty that matches the product's.
